combining the power of emerging leaders and social networks

Home Blogs and Videos About This Website Water Pressures: A Documentary

The International Youth Water Website is a "gathering place" where the energies and talents of 20-35 year olds -our future leaders and activists -can be positively and constructively engaged by posting blogs and videos about their local water issues.

Why now?

Youth have little voice on the standard water-issues websites, despite the fact that they are the generation most at risk and therefore most deeply committed to ecological sustainability.

  • in 14 years, by 2025, 800 million people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world population could be under stress conditions.

  • In 40 years, by 2050, there will be a worldwide water crisis affecting 52% of the world's population.

  • Hot Water Topics

This website will give poor, vulnerable communities sustained, direct access to worldwide water networks. Our project innovation is to focus on young adults who have one major advantage - the ability to instantly connect with, learn from and create digital media for social change worldwide.

  • Water governance - The most successful water projects create equal partnerships between the NGO or water organization and the local communities.

  • Water usage - Water usage varies greatly between Developed and Developing countries; those in urban areas vs. rural areas; and those of wealth and others living in poverty.

  • Gender - Women are responsible for water and carrying it, cooking & cleaning. Women and children suffer the most from lack of sufficient, safe water.

  • Sanitation - Sanitation goes hand in hand with safe and sustainable water sources. The Gates Foundation states: Water, sanitation, and hygiene are all critical to reducing the burden of water-borne diseases.

  • Health - 1.6 million children die each year from diarrheal disease, which is often caused by poor sanitation. Safe, sustainable approaches to sanitation can help save the lives of children who die from diarrhea and create a world where the poor lead healthier, more productive and more dignified lives.
